Native International is a global alliance dedicated to protecting, activating, and expanding humanity’s living natural knowledge through the people who have preserved it for generations. We believe that every human being is native—native to a family, a community, a landscape, a bioregion, the Earth, and ultimately the universe itself. Our mission is to reconnect humanity with nature by recognizing that culture, language, biodiversity, science, spirituality, arts, history, and education are inseparable expressions of the places where we live. Through collaboration across cultures and continents, Native International builds a worldwide movement where Elders, youth, educators, researchers, artists, scientists, indigenous communities, organizations, and future generations work together to preserve our collective heritage while creating new opportunities for peace, reconciliation, innovation, and lifelong learning.
Native International serves as the flagship initiative for preserving ancestral wisdom, indigenous knowledge, native cultures, traditional ecological knowledge, natural sciences, community memory, and living heritage within the broader Worldwide Library ecosystem. While the Worldwide Library preserves and organizes humanity’s collective knowledge, Native International focuses specifically on the knowledge carried by people and communities whose relationship with nature has been cultivated over centuries and millennia. We believe that knowledge is not simply stored in books or databases—it lives within people, ceremonies, languages, songs, landscapes, stories, medicines, traditions, arts, and everyday practices that continue to shape healthy communities across the world.
Knowledge Lives Within People
Our work is founded upon a simple truth: knowledge cannot exist without the people who carry it. Across every continent, Elders remain the living libraries of humanity. They preserve languages before they disappear, protect ecological memory before it is forgotten, teach cultural values before they are lost, and transmit practical wisdom that cannot be recreated once it vanishes. Native International exists to ensure that this living knowledge is respected, ethically documented, shared responsibly, and protected for future generations, while always honoring the sovereignty, dignity, and leadership of the communities themselves. This ethical commitment is guided by international standards such as the UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples and UNESCO’s work to safeguard Intangible Cultural Heritage.
Founder and Vision
Native International was founded and is continuously developed by Josef Sánchez as a long-term international initiative inspired by his work in digital transformation, artificial intelligence, knowledge management, information architecture, environmental stewardship, and his ongoing Master’s studies in Library and Information Science at the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM). His vision combines traditional librarianship with emerging technologies to build living knowledge systems where communities become active participants in preserving and expanding humanity’s shared wisdom. At the center of our work stands the World Official Bioregion Site, the collaborative ecosystem where communities gather to organize projects, develop long-term roadmaps, preserve biodiversity, strengthen cultural identity, coordinate research, document environmental knowledge, and build resilient regional networks rooted in peace, stewardship, and cooperation. Every initiative within Native International is connected through this shared platform, allowing local communities to remain autonomous while participating in a global alliance united by nature. Elders as Professional Wisdom-Keepers
One of the defining characteristics of Native International is our recognition of Elders as Professional Wisdom-Keepers. We believe Elders are among humanity’s most valuable educators because they carry living archives of languages, ecological understanding, ceremonies, oral history, literature, arts, agriculture, traditional medicine, ethics, and community memory. Rather than viewing Elders as passive custodians of history, Native International recognizes them as active teachers whose work deserves professional respect, financial support, technological assistance, research collaboration, documentation, and international recognition. By supporting Elders with dignity, we preserve entire knowledge systems that might otherwise disappear forever.

Agile Bioregion Circles (ABC)
To accomplish these goals, Native International develops Agile Bioregion Circles (ABC), collaborative community structures that organize projects around local ecosystems rather than political borders. Every ABC supports transparent decision-making, community participation, cultural continuity, biodiversity conservation, educational development, and long-term stewardship while respecting the unique identity of each participating territory. Through this model, communities retain ownership of their knowledge while benefiting from global collaboration and shared technological infrastructure.
Our funding philosophy follows the same ABC principles:
- Allocate and protect resources through transparent governance, ensuring every contribution directly supports meaningful community initiatives.
- Build sustainability by transforming donations into long-term educational systems rather than temporary assistance.
- Care through direct support by providing Elders with dignified monthly assistance, technological tools, internet connectivity, documentation resources, research opportunities, and educational environments where knowledge can continue to flourish for generations.
Native Bioregions
Native International is also developing a worldwide network of Native Bioregions, recognizing mountains, forests, rivers, deserts, coastlines, islands, grasslands, wetlands, watersheds, and migration corridors as the true living boundaries that organize life on Earth. Every Native Bioregion becomes a place where ecological knowledge, biodiversity, culture, history, language, arts, architecture, traditional medicine, environmental stewardship, and community identity are preserved as a single, integrated living system. Instead of dividing humanity by borders, Native Bioregions celebrate the natural landscapes that have shaped civilizations for thousands of years.
Every Native Bioregion is supported by its own Official Bioregion Site, serving as the public gateway through which communities document biodiversity, cultural heritage, languages, environmental challenges, conservation efforts, educational programs, libraries, research initiatives, events, publications, multimedia collections, and collaborative projects. These sites function simultaneously as digital libraries, community archives, educational centers, cultural platforms, research portals, and international meeting places that connect local communities to a global alliance united by knowledge and nature.
The Mayan Bioregion: Living Proof of Concept
The first complete implementation of this vision is the Mayan Bioregion, our living proof of concept developed over years of community engagement, research, relationship-building, educational initiatives, technological innovation, and cultural collaboration.
